Introduction

The XL-MaxSonar-WRML only reports the range to the target with the largest acoustic return to a maximum distance of 10 meters. This ultrasonic sensor provides a very robust long range sensing solution. The increased sensitivity of the XL-MaxSonar-WRML is ideal for applications requiring small or soft target detection range at longer ranges than our other XL-MaxSonar-WR sensors. This is our most sensitive ultrasonic sensor in the XL-MaxSonar-WR line of sensors and is designed for pencil beam applications >10º, environments with acoustic and electrical noise, people detection, soft targets, bin level measurement, and tank level measurement. The XL-MaxSonar-WRML has improved sensitivity to objects with the addition of a horn extension. This improvement results in the sensor detecting objects of a similar size about 2.5 times further compared to the MB7066 sensor. The detection patterns of each sensor are shown in the beam pattern section of the datasheet.

The weather resistant XL-MaxSonar-WRML is a rugged ultrasonic sensor component module. This outdoor sensor provides very short to long distance detection and ranging in a compact, robust PVC housing. The ultrasonic sensor meets the IP67 water intrusion standard and matches standard electrical 3/4‑inch PVC pipe fittings. High output acoustic power combined with continuously variable gain, real‑time background automatic calibration, real‑time waveform signature analysis, and noise rejection algorithms results in virtually noise free distance readings. This holds true even in the presence of many of the various acoustic or electrical noise sources. The XL‑MaxSonar-WR sensors are factory calibrated to match narrow sensor beam patterns and provide reliable long range detection zones.
