Introduction

This is a 60 RPM low cost single shaft DC geared motor. It is most suitable for light weight robot requiring small power. This motor can be used with 69mm Diameter Wheel for Plastic Gear Motors and 87mm Diameter Multipurpose Wheel for Plastic Gear Motors. For robot with Tank Tracks use Tank Track Links with 87mm Diameter Multipurpose Wheel for Plastic Gear Motors.

Drive shaft has clutch for non continuous protection from overload which protects gears from the sudden overload. Motor runs smoothly from 2V to 12V and gives wide range of RPM, and torque. Table below gives fairly good idea of the motor’s performance in terms of RPM, no load current as a function of voltage and stall torque, stall current as a function of voltage.

If you are a beginner in robotics, this BO motor should give you a perfect start. It can run on normal alkaline batteries so that you can focus on
mobile robotics and not get distracted around the other variables that come into play.rnA must for starters. If you buy from Nex-Robotics (like me),
make sure to buy the motor clamps and the wheel. The 69mm wheel should be a good start with the alkaline batteries. The three fit together nicely
without any problems. rnrnFor the chassis, I would suggest that you start with 3mm fiberglass plastic which can be cut into shape easily using any
hacksaw and you can drill holes using a hand-drill or a small electric drill.rnrnStart with just two motors at the back and a castor wheel in the
front (again, buy this from nex-robotics so that you get all things in one shipment).rnrnI built a small cellphone controlled robot using these and
you can see the demo at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ6gt5hP6S0rnrnI'm writing a blog on the detailed construction and will publish it soon on
http://vsblogs.wordpress.com and http://www.vishnusharma.com rnrnKeep a watch....finally, to start with, buy the following components from
nex-robotics to build something similar to what I have:rn1. BO motors (2 nos)rn2. 69mm wheels (2 nos)rn3. Motor clamp for BO motors (2 nos)rn4. Castor
wheel (pick medium size for above motors)rn5. Studs (20 mm, around 16 nos) - These are used to sandwich multiple layers of fiberglass plastic on the
robot platform to hold motors and electronics separatelyrnrnI used ATTiny2313 and L293D to control the motors (all details on my wordpress
blog)rnrnRemember, you have to buy 3mm nut and bolt for the studs. While nex-robotics provides the studs, they do not provide the bolts (I wish they
would one day).rnrnFor motor clamps and wheels, they provide all nut bolts, just for the studs they do not.rnrnHappy roboting!
